Free Spirits with Katie Kendrick and Judy Wise
Amsterdam rises above winding canals, a sea of bicycles and striking canal houses as locals and tourists traverse the capital of the Netherlands. Some gather here because of the freedoms the city allows, others, like us, for the beauty and history of its art and the artists who lived here.
Join Judy Wise and Katie Kendrick as they take you on a visual exploration of this stunning city. We'll be here while the tulips are in bloom and we expect to see many as we take our own bicycle trip in the country.

Airport - Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, located twenty minutes from Amsterdam City and approximately nine miles south west of the center of Amsterdam.
Day 1, May 21 - The group will gather for the first time at 6:00 pm for introductions followed by our first group meal at the George.
Day 2, May 22 - After breakfast, we will meet in the lobby and walk to Daniella Rubinovitz's gorgeous atelier for our first class. Katie will be sharing her techniques in exploring our interior world through abstract and/or expressionist painting. Watching Katie paint is a mesmerizing experience and she inspires you to trust your intuition, learning to feel more comfortable metaphorically “walking in the darkness” as we paint, gently supporting and following the flow of the sacred mystery in our work as it reveals itself. Yes, this is how Katie talks about her paintings. Told you, mesmerizing. Lunch will be close to the studio and we may even have dinner at the studio if we are feeling the groove.
Day 3, May 23 - Have breakfast and then we will leave for Rembrandt's house. Judy will explore and share Rembrandt’s shading techniques that we will see in his paintings and etchings inside his seventeenth-century home and studio. The guided tour will be illuminating, followed by lessons with Judy. Here is a short video of a recent exhibit at the Rijksmuseum (see left). That night we will eat out on the town.
Day 4, May 24 - Quick breakfast to fuel your body before we take a bike ride at 11:00, stopping along the way for some treats and photo opportunities. Then we'll head to a local flea market and dinner will be nearby.
Day 5, May 25 - Breakfast then we'll meet to walk to the studio to have class with Katie on a very special project. There will be some free time before we take a canal tour and visit the Van Gogh Museum.
Day 6, May 26 - After eating breakfast, it's back to the studio with Judy where she will discuss gestural drawings before our live model and class with Daniella Rubinovitz that afternoon. Lunch and dinner will be at the studio.
Day 7, May 27 - Eat breakfast before leaving for the Rijks Museum where we will also eat lunch. Our final class with Judy and Katie will be this afternoon in the studio. Dinner is on your own this evening.
Day 8, May 28 - Breakfast, then free time to explore, shop, visit the Anne Frank Museum before our wrap up and final dinner at Restaurant De Kas.
Day 9, May 29 - Trip is over and everyone is on their own to further explore or to leave for home.
Hotel View is located in an authentic canal house on the quiet Leidsekade. It is a short walk to the center of town and museum quarter. A small boutique hotel, it offers wifi, 24-hour front desk and security.
